Ponthafren Association has been awarded £336,314, over a three year period, from the People and Places programme, Big Lottery Fund Wales.
The project will significantly extend the current services for people with mental health issues in North Powys. We will have increased opening hours of the Associations Outreach Centre in Welshpool and provide an out of hours drop-in counselling and crisis service in both Newtown and Welshpool.
This award-winning organisation is based in Newtown, with an Outreach Centre in Welshpool and an Outreach Group in Llanidloes.
What is Ponthafren?
Ponthafren Centre, opened in 1992, is a registered Mental Health Charity, catering for people who experience mental health issues, those who may be socially isolated or excluded. The group offers drop-in facilities where people can relax, chat and have a chance to participate in a wide range of workshops, activities and courses if they wish. In-house support is available and the association can signpost to other organisations and specialist support services.
Volunteer Supporters
Our unique system of recruiting and training service users to become Volunteer Support Workers has continued and our team of dedicated volunteers help to keep the centre open every day of the year, at times when people need it most. These volunteers really do keep us going and have enabled us to grow and develop through their sheer dedication and hard work. Thanks to everyone!
Where are we?
Ponthafren operates within the rural area of Montomeryshire, North Powys, where people have difficulty in accessing public transport. Our main centre is in Newtown with outreach centres in Welshpool. and Llanidloes
