This blog was written by George, in his own words:

I’m George, an 18 year old from Mid-Wales. I have experienced feelings of anxiety and depression throughout my life and have seen first hand the effect issues with mental health can have on family and friends.

During the pandemic, it has become increasingly apparent the strain many like myself are experiencing and the stigma surrounding men’s mental health that lead many to suffer in silence.

Conversations I’ve had with friends and family over the last year about the toll this pandemic has taken and feelings of loneliness, lack of purpose and uncertainty that so many young men are experiencing has really made me think about the many that feel they are not able to reach out and ask for support when needed. These troubling times have amplified the issues surrounding the stigma of men’s mental health and real change and action is needed.

Thus, my support for Let’s Get Men Talking is founded in my hope that men of any age can find support and feel comfortable and respected when they reach out; and having a platform for people to share their experiences is a fantastic way to promote conversations surrounding mental health. My advice to anyone struggling is to converse, listen and learn from as many people you possibly can. Knowledge and wisdom is powerful. Immerse yourself in things you are passionate about. Surround yourself with people who make you happy.

Finally, never be afraid to talk about the way you feel.
