Many residents of Newtown may have been left wondering what was happening as Long Bridge was closed off and a Fire appliance was used to rescue a baby gull that had fallen from its nest and become trapped in Ponthafren's solar panels on the roof.

A member of the public made Ponthafren aware of the issue and the RSPCA was brought in to see what could be done for the poor unfortunate bird. Some thought the bird had passed away, but movement could be seen and it was hard to tell if it was caused by the wind.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service came to the rescue and managed to save the bird, which was still alive. The bird had sustained a damaged wing and was likely dehydrated and hungry.

The RSPCA are hopeful the bird will make a full recovery.
